Strategic
analysis includes all those models and techniques that study the environment in
which an organization operates. This environment ranges from external trends
(economy, policies, technological innovations, etc.) to the organization
(mission, strategy, goals, value chain, etc.) and its business environment
(competitors, substitute products, customers, suppliers, etc.).
The objective of a strategic analysis is to
investigate ideas and problems either to evaluate the strategic direction of
the organization or to identify possible future strategies. I will focus only
on the descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytical models of strategic
analysis, excluding any strategy implementation and follow-up techniques.
